After more than a week the registrars for http://www.fsdeveloper.com have still not sorted out the problem with the domain despite our efforts (Thanks Arno and Lefteris) to deal with them. We certainly do not recommend Joker.com as a registrar - their customer service is dreadful.

As an alternative we have set up a new domain http://www.fsdeveloper.org This is now operational and folks are beginning to be able to use it.

We will retain http://www.fsdeveloper.com and move it to another registrar just as soon as Joker.com take it out of hold

Weer wat info:

Out of Memory Errors

We are seeing more of these errors with recent versions of ADE. It is quite common to think that this is related to the total memory that you have and wonder why such an error can arise when you have 8 or more Gb of memory. The problem is that the error is not actually related to the total memory that you have but to the amount available to ADE and how fragmented this is:

<em>An out of memory exception is thrown whenever the .Net runtime fails to allocate the memory that was just requested - this could be because the machine has run out of physical memory and the swap file is disabled (or the machine has run out of disk space), or it could be because the virtual memory space of the process is too fragmented to allocate the desired block of memory (which can happen when working with large objects). </em>

Over the years ADE has added new functions and there are some very big projects out there. The introduction of features like the custom ground objects is also adding new objects into the project. We are aware of this issue and are actively looking for ways to reduce the memory needed by ADE and also to 'predict' when it might be about to run out of memory. This is not easy however and may take a bit of time - out of memory can occur pretty much anywhere in the application depending on the state of the memory at the time and whether there is enough to allocate to a big object or complex process. So the place where the error actually arises may not be the real cause.

New Beta

This is just a note that we are getting close to releasing a new beta. This is the start of the next major update and should be released within the week. The first new feature covers project specific settings. This allows users to define where they want to save and compile to on a project by project basis. It also allows more user control over whether to save the source XML and where to save it. The compiling engine has been re-written to make it easier for more customized compiling options in the future. We have also tried to improve the way that ADE handles 'black box' library objects.

Laatste bericht van Jon:

We are pleased to announce that the next version of ADE is almost here. We have today released what we hope is the final code for Version 1.65. Whilst this is still subject to change the functionality is fixed and the code is deemed to be stable. We expect some bugs to appear (as they always do even for production versions). The new documentation is in production but most of the new features are covered on the on-line help site. Full details of the new version and a download link are available from this link: http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/thread ... le.431413/

There are a number of small enhancements and bug fixes as well as the following major new features

Project specific properties. These allow you to set different paths and settings by project file. We realize that not everyone will want to use these so we have tried to make them as non intrusive as possible in that case
Multi-edit for all objects types and groups of objects. Past versions of ADE have limited the editing of multiple objects to just taxiways and parking. Now you can select any group of objects from a list or the display and edit the properties they have in common
Conditional compile. Part of project properties is an expansion of compile options. For those with a ProKey it is not possible to decide which groups of objects to compile - e.g the airport, the terrain and/ or the ground polys. There is also a new feature that means you can elect not to compile objects on an object by object basis. This can be useful if you are creating more advanced airport or overlays
The ability to change the identification data of an airport such as name, city, state and so on. This is only possible with bgl files loaded before the stock airport and we have extended the change altitude function to include the identification data
New Lister. We have entirely changed the listing tool. This now allows users to re-arrange the way in which lists are displayed and have ADE remember. You can have a different arrangement for each list type including which columns to display and how to group the items in the list. It is also possible to filter the lists to quickly find the item(s) you want.
Search projects. With the introduction of project properties it is now possible to search through your collection of project files by different criteria and see where they are duplicated or where you have several files for one airport. This feature is not retrospective since it does rely on the project settings data
Import Settings from an older version. When we release a new version of ADE it is usually installed separately from existing installations. In the past we offered information on how to manually import settings from an existing installation. This is now automated and ADE can guide you though getting the old settings into the new version.
We invite you to try this pre-release version and give us your feedback. We hope that the changes we have made are a step forward and will make ADE a better development tool.

Installation instructions are in the link above. However the zip file contains a single installer which will install this version. If you have an earlier version of the 1.62 beta then you can over write it. For new users we strongly recommend allowing the installer to install in the suggested folder on your computer. While you are free to change this we know this location and can predict that ADE will work well from there.

Thanks for you continued interest and support of ADE.

PS. I am aware that a number of you have advised us of email changes. We try to keep up with these and we have checked the databases again before sending this. However there are a large number of email on them. so if we have failed to get it right (again!) please bear with us. Let us know and I will try to ensure that we sort them out this time around.

En het volgende:

This is an update to my recent mailing on 1.65. Since that mailing we have been working on tidying up this new version of ADE. We have fixed a number of reported bugs and have simplified the handling of the extended project properties. This will be the next production version. We do not expect to add or change any functionality now but we will fix bugs as they are reported via the production rather than development work flow. We are still working on documentation but all the new functions are covered via the on-line help site: https://scruffyduck.screenstepslive.com ... cs/m/20268 Just use the Next Version Section or search for the 1.65 Tag.

The full installer for this version is currently available here: http://www.scruffyduck.org/download/i/m ... 2_full.zip

If you installed the previous Release Candidate 1 then you will receive the update to Release Candidate 2 via the on-line updater. If you haven't then please do download and try this new version and let us know what you think

Wie ADE 1.65 wil installeren kan een foutmelding krijgen.
Jon schrijft daarover:

Firstly please accept my apologies for sending out another e-mail so close to the last but I think I need to clarify something about installing ADE 1.65

A number of you have emailed me to say that your current version of ADE is saying that it is up to date. This will be true. We have a release process (which could probably be improved of course) that means new major versions are installed using a new full installer. Updates between versions are done via the online updater. We do this for two reasons. First it is generally better to install a new major version separately from an existing version since file structures and so on are likely to have changed. Second a major update often involves a lot of changed files which makes an online update large, slow and cumbersome.

So your 1.61 ( or 1.55 etc) installation will say it is up to date - which is true for that version.

To install 1.65 you need to get the new installer which you can get from the downloads page at www.scruffyduck.org This article explains how to install it: https://scruffyduck.screenstepslive.com ... l-ade-1-65

1.65 has a new import function that will let you import your settings and databases from an earlier version so it will start out with the same information and settings as the earlier version.

I am looking for a method to make the availability of a new major version easier for you but it might be a little while before we can implement that.

Again thanks for your patience and interest in ADE.

Nieuw berichtje van Jon:

After much hard work Helli has completed the new ADE English Manual including all the 1.65 features, This manual is a substantial re-write over the last version and contains new and enhanced information. At more than 300 pages it contains much information of general interest to airport design alongside how to use ADE.

I would like to thank Helli for all his hard work and patience in producing this. His attention to detail sometimes had us on the hop but also improved some aspects of the program itself. I would also like to thank George, Jim and Martin for their continuing support and help in proof reading the manual.

The new manual can be downloaded from the ADE web site downloads page or directly from here:

Nieuwste update:

It has been a long time since I last sent out an update. Life has tended to get in the way of my work on ADE and other tools. However some progress has been made.

ADE now supports Prepar3D version 3 and we are excited to announce a new Beta that supports accurate library object footprints. One of the long term issues with ADE is that all library objects are depicted as rectangles representing the overall bounding box. This made accurate placement of things around the object difficult. Thanks to help from Arno Gerretsen ADE now displays the actual shape footprint. This thread explains where we are and offers a beta to test: http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/thread ... ts.436358/ All feedback much appreciated.

We have also just released a new version of Simple Airport Scanner which supports all versions of the Sim including P3D v3. A full manual installer can be downloaded from here: http://www.scruffyduck.org/simple-airpo ... 4584282795 to replace your existing version.

It is also available by on line update.

Please note that some folks may get messages about the updater failing and Windows searching for a solution. If you cancel these messages then the update will install. I don't know what is causing this and I may have to change the updater system eventually

I hope to have some other new announcements in the near future

https://greencan.home.xs4all.nl/parkeer ... ft_doc.pdf

It is the end of March already and I just seem to have gotten over the New Year. This is just a short email to update you on the current state of ADE development. In my last email I reported that we had a beta with some new features and support for Prepar3D v3. We are getting close to a new full release of ADE which will be version 1.70. The main new features are the drawing of detailed footprints for library objects and a new function called the File Priority Analyzer (FPA).

One of the big problems that we keep seeing is where the user does not get in the sim what they expect. Things they want to see don't show up or sometimes things they thought were removed still show. This is usually due to there being several bgl files in the sim for the airport which conflict with each other. FS has very specific rules about file priority and if you are not that familiar with it then this article might be of interest:

The FPA is similar to our other tool called Simple Airport Scanner which will search for duplicate copies of an airport in different bgl files. FPA however has a couple of differences. First it deals with a single airport at a time and second it also looks for scenery objects as well as airport facilities. You may like to download the draft documentation for the FPA to find out more about it.

Well I guess that is enough for now. I would like to wish a very happy Easter to those who celebrate it

Uit mijn spambox gevist:

I am delighted to announce the nextmajor release of ADE - version 1.70. It has been a long time in the making and although the new features are modest I hope that they will enhance the usefulness of the program. The release notes are shown below for your information.

We are finalizing the release package at the moment and uploading it to our servers. We will then make the small changes necessary to the website to point to the new files. If you wish to download it then it will be available within 24 hours. This is a new version with a new installer. You will not be able to get an on-line update to take you from your current version to this one.

I expect that this will be the last major version release for ADE. We have been working on it now since 2007! Our plan for the future is to make smaller incremental enhancements that can be delivered but the updater system.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank you all for your support and interest over the years.

Jon
